Soft and Juicy Apricots

Apricots are packed with the beta-carotene vitamin A, a powerful antioxidant which is good for helping keep hearts healthy as it helps prevent free radicals from changing ‘good’ cholesterol into the ‘bad’ cholesterol that is able to adhere to blood vessels, and so may help prevent heart disease. The vitamin A in apricots may also help promote good vision as it may quench free radical damage to cells and tissues. Free radical damage can injure the eyes’ lenses which may lead to cataracts. Low in fat, apricots are a good source of iron, needed by the body to produce red blood cells; and fibre to help maintain healthy bowel and digestion. Eating a portion of apricots can help people boost their fibre intake. Most people get less than 10g of fibre per day whereas a healthy intake is in the region of 20-24g. Free from dairy, egg, fish, soya, wheat or gluten. Suitable for vegetarians and vegans. Three apricots count as one of your 5 a day portions.
